History of orange chair interviewThe first Orange Chair Interviews were conducted on March 5, 2105 at DECO Lighting 2917 South Vail Avenue. Commerce, CA 90040.
Brad Turner, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Cleantech Press (LinkedIn) scheduled an interview on February 24, 2015 to meet and interview Sam Sinai, CEO (LinkedIn) and Ben Pouladian. President (LinkedIn) and Co-Founders of DECO Lighting to do an interview (article link) and take a tour of their manufacturing facility in a industrial area in the City of Commerce which is located 10 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. While Brad was waiting in the beautifully designed DECO reception area he experienced something he had not seen before. There were five DECO Lighting manufacturer representatives that had flown in to receive training. While waiting together the reps started taking pictures of each other sitting in the cool designed orange colored chair in the reception area. Brad along with being impressed with the design of lobby thought how interesting it was that the men in the group wanted to take this picture keepsake of their DECO visit sitting in the orange chair. After taking the tour of the facility with Ben and interviewing both Sam and Ben he learned they were both unique individuals in addition to building a innovative business. They have created a vision that includes incorporating a philosophy, culture, design along with developing and manufacturing advanced innovative lighting products. It turns out that Ben and Sam are cousins and they have both transitioned from being Investment bankers, Ben worked at Jefferies, a global investment bank and Sam worked at Morgan Stanley, another global investment bank and decided to leave their plush offices and in essence start doing manual labor. They each shared about unloading the first shipment of products and learning how to drive a forklift. After the first interview Brad asked Sam and Ben if he could come back to do a video interview of them sitting in the Orange Chair and they agreed. Brad asked video producing partner Matthias von Bank (LinkedIn) to meet on March 5, 2015 to film the first Orange Chair Interviews. |
